Welcome to The Mustard Seed Challenge!

Greetings and welcome!

I'm Professor Sarah Lockwood, and I'm the blog administrator. I'm the communications instructor for ENGG 251/253 Introduction to Design and Communications at the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary.

Our course is part of the first year 'Common Core' program and we have over 700 first year students registered in the course this year.

This blog is a component of the course's capstone project; a seven-week design project that has our students working with a corporate or non-profit partner to provide possible solutions to a real world problem.

This year, our students are working with The Mustard Seed, a non-profit organization in Calgary, Alberta, that works with the homeless. Our students will be working in one of three areas of concern to The Mustard Seed clients:

1) GED preparation

2) Cognitive skills development

3) Social skills development

Working in lab rooms of 28-30 students, our students will then be divided into groups of four and each group of four will contribute part of the final package.
Each week, each lab will post updates of what each team has accomplished, as well as posing questions and offering solutions to other problems.

We hope you'll join us on this challenge!
